This Spanish breed was nearly extinct in the early 80's and has been brought back through commendable breeding conservation. These beautiful fowl are still extremely rare in the United States. They are very well suited to free ranging and also stand confinement well... The female Partridge Penedesenca plumage is a golden brown with a fine double laced/penciled feathering.... perfect for camouflage where predators are a problem..... The males resemble the colorful feathering of a Brown Leghorn...... Another special trait of this unique and rare breed is the presence of a "carnation" or "kings" comb...... spikes protrude from the base of the comb resembling a flower or a crown......
