Wyandottes were developed in New York State in the early 1870s and were admitted into the American Standard of Perfection in 1883.
With an average weight of 6 pounds, female Wyandottes will lay approximately 220 brown and tinted eggs per year.
They will brood on occasion and are good setters.
Wyandotte males average 8 1/2 pounds and are quite docile.
This low maintenance breed also stands confinement well or free ranges happily.
Joseph McKeen of Wisconsin was the originator of the Golden Laced Wyandotte. This stunning variety was admitted to the APA in 1888.
The Golden Laced Wyandotte is characterized by golden colored feathers, each laced in black around the edge and a black tail.
They are loosely feathered with a tightly worn rose comb and clean legs. Wyandottes are a dependable, hardy Winter layer which also make an impressive table fowl.
Golden Laced Wyandottes are a sweet tempered breed that make an excellent choice for the pet chicken owner.
They are social and pleasantly vocal while uttering their soft clucks.
