Originally designed for the U.S. Air Force GMQ-20 wind measuring system, the ID815A is a precision instrument for displaying wind speed and wind direction from a remote transmitter. Wind direction is displayed on a dial calibrated in degrees of the compass, and wind speed is displayed on a dial calibrated in knots (other calibrations available).
Wind speed DC voltage is converted to movement of a pointer by a precision jeweled-bearing galvanometer. Wind direction signals are converted to movement of a pointer by a precision ball bearing AC synchro receiver. These quality meters are housed in a machined aluminum alloy frame and are surface mounted in a standard aluminum rack panel. The indicator is fitted with a 10ft. (3M) multi-conductor cable and terminal strip for easy connection and serviceability. The unit is designed to be mounted in a standard 19 inch rack, or enclosure (not included).
This unit features a set of meters with bright white dials for easy reading in daylight and dimmable electroluminescent dial lighting for reading in low light conditions. The indicator panel incorporates an oscillator circuit that supplies the 400Hz AC voltage to power the electroluminescent dials. When lit, the dials glow with a subtle blue-green color that is very unique and intriguing.
This unit is designed for connection to an optional Belfort model 120 Aerovane or the military version T-755 Aerovane transmitter. The ID815A indicator is the military version of the popular Belfort model 135 indicator. (The aerovane is not part of this sale; please see our other listings for this item).
This wind speed and direction indicator was previously deployed at a US Air Force base, and has been refurbished to bring it up to operational status as defined in the Air Force technical orders for service of the GMQ-20 wind measuring system. This includes replacing or restoring parts such as bearings, brushes, and fasteners. The indicator undergoes a complete performance testing with dual-point calibration. Our shop is outfitted with test gear specifically designed for maintenance and calibration of these instruments.
The front panel has been refinished professionally with catalyst-hardened automotive enamel for a durable and long lasting finish. If you are looking for a wind speed and direction indicator that is of professional quality, attractive, reliable, and at a fraction of the original cost - this may be a viable choice for you (the original military acquisition cost for this indicator was over $1,300). This unit has been cleaned, tested, calibrated, and is ready to install.
