Zygo z- mike laser micrometer model 1202B with accy.

Zygo Z-mike 1202B laser micrometer in excellent working condition with 19" long accessory slide. Also has the adjustable height v blocks and three manuals. The measuring range is .003" to 1.000" and the repeatability is .00002" (.0005mm). The slide allows you to measure in several spots by sliding the part back and forth along the 19" slide. The adjustable v blocks allow different sized shafts to be used (with measuring scales for ease of setup). One of the manuals has all of the accessories that were available when manufactured in 1989 (not included) but good information if you wanted to find or make one. The unit was stored at my place of business in a clean dry environment with very little use in the last 4 to 5 years. I will guarantee this unit not DOA for 7 days after delivery. There is a company in Hartford CT (FASI) that still refurbishes and sells these units. There is an RS232 port for output of data for analysis. One of the pictures shows the 12 different types of measuring the can be done with this unit including distance between to objects inside and outside. Mathematical functions include standard deviation, min, max.
This gauge would even be great for identifying end mills and drill bits quickly although it's accuracy is designed for very precise measurements. Another simple use is to confirm a gauge pins size if your eyes are not sharp enough to read the really small gauge pins (like me). Obviously this gauge is ideal when you cannot scratch the object being measured or a micrometer is not accurate enough.
Someone asked if you could measure transparent objects so I took apart an auto antifreeze hydrometer (hollow polished glass tube and measured it on the system. I had to wash and dry the tube for measuring. I measured the tube with calipers (no micrometer at home) for a double check. The laser mike got 22.1984mm to 22.1785mm and also found the tube is out of round by .013mm by rotating the part on the v blocks (inches was .87306" in a different spot). Keep in mind that hydrometer tubes are not made tight tolerances. Very cool instrument. The sliding fixture and adjustable v blocks were great for this since the diameter was on the high side of the measuring range. I put the tube on the v blocks, closed one of the laser doors and moved the part up until I saw the light on the top and bottom of the receiving door (some light shines through the tube obviously). I then used the vernier scales on the v blocks to set both v blocks to the same height for the most accurate reading. Opened the door and pressed "0" type for measuring (types of measuring are right on the front panel - see photos). pressed go and viola I had a measurement.
I never even had to read the manual- how cool is that!
