Varian Sorption (Absorption) Large Vacuum Pump with Heater and Dewar System CFF 2.75" Used
This Varian Sorption (Absorption) Vacuum Pump System uses Molecular Sieves for low vacuum pumping. This system is typically connected to the vacuum system and the heaters are used to warm the molecular sieves and cause them to out gas. The molecular sieves are typically chilled during the pumping process by submerging the stainless steel cylinders in liquid nitrogen. The pumping occurs by the process of adsorption. This is somewhat similar to catching flies with flypaper. When the molecular sieve is chilled to LN2 temperature, it will adsorb most air gases on its vast surface area. Gas atoms or molecules, which contact the molecular sieve, will stick. They will not become unstuck until the molecular sieve becomes warmed.
