1956 john deere 420-u tractor ie- 420 430 320 40 m h

* Starts, Runs, Steers, Shifts, Brakes and Cools All REAL GOOD+
* 4 Speed Forward / 1 Reverse - with Rare Optional Reverser
* Very Good Tread 60-75% Rear Tires with weathering
* John Deere Rear Wheel Weights
is this real good JOHN DEERE 420 Gas, Row Crop Utility Tractor. Runs real well and no smoking, noises or knocking or any of that. Starting, Shifting, Clutch, Brakes, Electrical, Cooling and Brakes all real good or better. Transmission is quiet too and real good normal oil pressure where a 2-Cylinder like this should be.
This tractor came from out west years ago and we were told it was thought to have been sent to the Holt Co. at one point to be used or converted to a John Deere / Holt 420-U Forklift and that makes sense since this has the optional Reverser on it which is very hard to find aon a 420. And the Reverser was a feature found on the only 25 John Deere/Holt Forklifts known to be built. (by the way I do know of one of these rare John Deere 420 Holt Forklifts for sale and it is a project machine for $17,000 obo range, but it also comes with 2 other 420 forklift carcasses so that it'd be 3 of the 25 built.)
This 420-U was just used some for spring seeding too and on their grain dryer last fall. All gauges work except tach which doesn t have a cable but shows 2,125 hours which they feel is close to original by how good it runs and lack of wear on the pedals and rear hitch and 3-Point. It could very well work again with a new cable by the good appearance of it as you can see in the picture above.
It does have now a repo. JD 420 drawbar on it since these pictures were taken. Has a generator and Sheet metal is all real good with the main mention the air cleaner has a ding in it. Rims are rusty around the valve stem but there is nothing going through that we can see. Transmission is quiet. 60-75% rears with weathering on them and the front tires are average. Brakes are good for a 420 and steering, shifting and rest all real good.
(I'll put a couple EXAMPLE pictures above of 3 nicely painted 420-U's I found pictures of online but not for sale - each worth over several thousand I'm sure. One of these is a 1956 and that year was the very last for John Deere tractors to have left the factory with the all green body and yellow wheels. The yellow stripe as you may know came out in 1957 through 1960. But a lot of people paint 1956's both ways and the new owner can do what they wish on this 1956 we're selling as you can see it was already repainted once with a yellow stripe.)
This JOHN DEERE 420-U needs nothing and is all ready to work or paint.
(Wt. on the John Deere 420 is approx. 3,200 lbs.. No Tax on Farm Equipment.)
From the John Deere Collectors Guide - "The model 420, introduced in 1956, was much the same as the 40 it replaced but with some important improvements. These included a 20% power increase mainly by increasing the bore by .0.25in; a live PTO could be ordered if a person ordered the optional 5-Speed Transmission. Another option was the dual touch-o-matic and in 1957 a LP engine. In addition, the 420 had a pressurized radiator with water pump. The tractor looked different in all 3 years it was produced. 1956 was the all-green model with yellow wheels. 1957 was the first year of the Deere yellow hood stripe. And in 1958 the 420 had a slanted steering wheel, except for the LP and Hi-Crop models which always had the straight steering wheel. "
