Protectoseal 4960F flame arrestor 10 inch
The item for sale in this listing is a Protectoseal model 4960F 10" flame arrestor. It appears to have never been installed.
The Protectoseal Series No. 4950 Vent-Line / In-Line Flame Arrester is designed to be installed in open vent pipes or bleed lines from storage or processing tanks. The arresters are used to prevent the propagation of an external flame through the vent opening and into the tank. They provide maximum air-flow consistent with operating efficiency and safety. Listed by Underwriters' Laboratories (UL) in this 12" size. Factory Mutual (FM) Approved in all sizes.
The flame arrester assembly consists of a series of circular, heavy gauge metal plates assembled onto alignment bolts, threaded into the arrester cover. Correct, uniform spacing between the plates is assured through the use of precision embossings and spacers on alternate plates. The arrester assembly is mounted to the arrester housing, and the gasketed cover joint insures a vapor tight connection. Arrester assembly elements are removable and interchangeable. When an element is removed for inspection or maintenance, a clean spare element can to be inserted to provide positive flame arrester protection at all times.
When properly mounted in a open vent pipe line, the Series 4950 Flame Arrester allows vapors to discharge into the atmosphere and allows air to be drawn into the pipe through the flame arrester grid assembly. If an external flame source is encountered, the device prohibits passage of the flame into the tank's vapor space. These arresters are suitable for use with common flammable vapor mixtures, such as gasoline and methane (referenced as Group D atmospheres in the National Electric Code, NEC, Article 500, generally equivalent to International Electrotechnical Commission, IEC, Group IIA). They may be installed within specified distances from the end of an open vent pipe.
