In studies, it has been shown that the withdrawal resistance of annular thread or ring shank nails are about 40% greater than that of plain common nails. The benefit is much greater in wood subject to repeated changes in moisture content: under those conditions ring shank nails can be 4 times better than a plain shank nail of the same diameter. In general, annularly threaded nails sustain larger withdrawal loads than do other nail forms.
