4+ Fertile Midget White Turkey eggs for hatching:
This is 4+ fertile Midget White turkey eggs for hatching. These are wonderful birds they have won blind taste tests for flavor, they are smaller in size, unusually friendly and of course rare! Great 4-H projects, hobby or delicious for dinner. They are a fairly new, smaller meat turkey. They reproduce naturally. Toms are 13-15 lbs and the hens 8 -10 lbs. They are not huge, but dress out well with a good amount of breast meat.
In the early 1960s, there was a commercial interest in developing miniature versions of the broad breasted large white and bronze turkeys. Their experiments in the lower weight range, which included the Beltsville white turkeys, to produce small turkey broilers (6 to 9 pounds) were disappointing. It was Dr. J. Robert Smyth at the University of Massachusetts who created the Midget White turkey breed. He crossed an excellent line of broad breasted whites with royal palm turkeys he obtained from Dr. Edwards Buss of Pennsylvania State University.
The survival of this breed now lies completely in the hands of private individuals. Both the meat and the eggs of the Midget White are outstanding in quality. They are currently listed as critical on the ALBC s conservation list.
When breeding Midget White turkeys, care should be taken in the selection of breeding stock to retain the small size of the breed. Once the young turkeys are well feathered they have the ability to fly, so care must be taken to prevent escape. Adult Midget Whites are less likely to take flight as they get heavier. These diminutive turkeys are unusually friendly and will approach people and pets without much concern.
These are truly fantastic birds and a must have for any serious poultry enthusiast!
