Studio art business card holders 1 of a kind ceramic

The story of the business card holder.
Being a studio ceramist we often work in series of items to develop a better understanding of the form; and to reap the serendipitous gifts that come through quiet repetition. The new events can then be repeated and refined. In approaching this series of work I tried to explore the effect of stressing the medium, exploiting it's unique characteristics. I wanted a functional form we could live with and enjoy in a place we spend a lot of time. I thought about where many people spend thier time as well as a place that could benefit from the natural beauty a properly handled piece of clay can bring. I thought about something I heard Warren Mackenzie say.
" We are products of our environments, and our environments are assemblages."
(Warren would also appreciate if that art was available at a fair price). SOO.......... Here for your consideration is a bit-o'-art for your desktop. Each piece is a individual work. No two are alike. They come stamped by the artists chop and tend to draw attention and conversation. I guess it's good you know the story! The materials are stoneware and porcelain and the glazes are a cone-10 reduction, asian pallette including shino on stoneware and porcelain; sometime with soda soaking of the bisque, producing some beautiful carbon-trapping surprises, tenmoku and celadons.
As a fourth-generation ceramic artist I honestly feel compelled to make pots. During times in my life when circumstance made it difficult to work in clay, pots would seem to spontaneously be created; daydreams of working through technical or aesthetic problems....
I would say the foundation of my work is based in Mingei principles of health, naturalness and beauty and form following function. From time to time when everything is working, my own culture and experience are expressed through these values and I am happy with the work. I hope you enjoy it as well.
