Frank Lloyd Wright business card case from Acme Studio, titled Home & Studio". The black line work with earth-tone accents is reminiscent of the stain glass windows in the Wright s first home & studio in the suburbs of Chicago. Case is 3 x 2 3/8 x with snap-lock and hinged lid.
Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959)
Born in Wisconsin, he grew up to be America s greatest and most innovative Architect. Frank Lloyd Wright is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in modern Western architecture. His radically innovative designs, utilizing a building style based on natural forms, termed by Wright as organic architecture, have tagged him as a major, respected architect. His legacy is one of America s foremost cultural treasures. In 1940, he established The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation to protect, preserve and administer his life s work. In 1991, Architectural Record magazine published a list of the 100 most significant buildings in the world - 11 were by Frank Lloyd Wright.
In Oak Park, Illinois serving as Wright's private residence and workplace from 1889 to 1909 - the first 20 years of his career. Wright used his home as an architectural laboratory, experimenting with design concepts that contain the seeds of his architectural philosophy. Here he raised six children with his first wife, Catherine Tobin. In 1898, Wright added a studio, described as having "inspiration everywhere." In the Studio, FLW and his associates designed 125 structures, including such famous buildings as the Robie House, the Larkin Building and Unity Temple.
Oak Park is home to the world's largest collection of FLW designed buildings and houses, with 25 structures built between 1889 and 1913. It was in this village that Wright developed and perfected his signature Prairie Style architecture, emphasizing the use of interior light and open spaces in low, earth-hugging buildings. Many of the Wright houses and buildings in Oak Park and neighboring River Forest are registered National Historic Landmarks.
