This is a Used CARL ZEISS JENA Micromanipulator Fixture.
Manufactured by: Carl Zeiss / JENA Instrument Manufacturing.
The term of " Micrurgy " comprises all microscopical work without and consideration for the special field, any work which apart from the microscope requires the employment of the micromanipulator with all its supplementaries.
The micromanipulator is an accessory to the microscope. Due to its mechanical properties it permits of carring out various predetermined and reproducible manipulations on the object by means of tools of correspondingly small dimension, and under constant observation through the microscope.
Immediately and free from backlash the micrmanipulator conveys the movements of the operator's controlling hand directionally and uniformly to the different microscope magnifications.
As transmission agent in the horizontal direction our sliding micromanipulator exploits the special characteristics of certain grease mixtures, a layer of which lies between the two metal plates ground to the highest accuracy; in the vertical direction differential screws are made use of and for tilting precision screws of fine pitch, running against hardened thrust bearings.

Advantages of this micromanipulator:
* All operating mechanisms are free from play
* The sliding grease, being mixed by the user himself, may be closely adapted to the requirements of the particular operation
* With a maximum of safety directional movements within the scope of divisions of 1/1000 mm may be carried out with the free hand.
* The high consistency of the sliding grease makes the natural unrest of the hand completely ineffective.
* The sliding micromanipulator may be employed up to highest magnifications.
* The drives of all principal motional elements being combined in one handle, displacements may be carried out seperately according to the space axes as well as in the resultants of several coordinates.
* Adaption of the reduction ratio to the microscopes magnification is done according to the observer's visual impression of the size of the tool tip relatively to the object.
* As with sliding principle no mechanical components are required neither for the change of the reduction ratio nor for the transmission of motion, susceptibility to trouble is extremely low.
A microscope being combined with a micromanipulator constitutes an Equipment for Micrurgy. In case of our equipment the ERGAVAL microscope is employed, because it is equipped with the fixed object stage being indespensible for micrurgical work. With the ERGAVAL focusing is effected by displacing the tube carrier with the aid of the low-positioned coaxial drive.
By means of special clamps the microscope is fastened to the base plate which on both sides carries the work platforms of the sliding Micromanipulator. Moreover, the base plate carries a versatilely adjustable head rest which suitably adjusted enables the user to work in a relaxed and convenient position, thus permitting the best possible concentration on the experimental work. Taking into consideration that most micrurgical operations are rather complicated, this concentration is one of the decisive criteria for successful work.

This vintage instrument was constructed to the highest tolerances.
Movements are fine and precise.
The unit overall is 24" wide x 14" front to back and 8" tall.
The distance between the head and tailstock is 9".
The base is 1/2" thick solid steel with several 1/4" tapped holes in the base for mounting etc.

We do not have an operators manual or any other accessories only what is pictured.
Instrument weighs approx. 55lbs boxed.
