Heat sealing is a simple, economic and efficient way of sealing plates for PCR and storage applications. It is now recognised as the most effective method of plate sealing. ABgene s range of storage and PCR plates all feature a raised rim design for optimal heat sealing, ensuring exceptional seal integrity.
ABgene offers two heat sealing instruments to suit both high and low throughput requirements. The Thermo-Sealer is a compact, manual heat sealer that is able to seal a wide range of plates* including storage plates (deep well and standard profile), microplates and PCR plates (non-skirted, skirted and semi-skirted).
The operation of the unit is very simple and robust. The plate is placed on a support block with a sheet of heat seal positioned over the wells. The heated element, with preset temperature for optimal sealing, is brought down manually onto the seal and plate. The plate is securely sealed in seconds.
Recent improvements to the Thermo-Sealer have resulted in smoother operation of the shuttle mechanism that carries the heated element up and down, providing even greater reliability and ease of use. Testing has shown that the improved Thermo-Sealer still maintains smooth operation after more than 100,000 sealings.
The Thermo-Sealer is a manual heat sealer ideal for low to medium throughput applications. This compact and portable instrument can seal a wide range of plates of differing heights when supported by plate carriers. The heating element of the sealer is pre-set for optimal sealing conditions to produce permanent or peelable seals when used in conjunction with ABgene?s sealing foil or film sheets. For safety, the heating plate of the sealer faces downwards and a built-in thermostat control prevents overheating.
