The PlateCrane XL is a cylindrical robotic arm that delivers labware to one or more devices. It provides a reliable, simple and elegant way to increase the automation capabilities of laboratories using any device or devices that utilize the microplate format.
The PlateCrane allows users to achieve "walkaway automation" of microplate-based assays. Instead of loading and processing microplates one at a time, the user loads stacks of microplates onto the PlateCrane, which then automatically feeds them to the integrated Molecular Devices reader system, dispenser, or washer.
Software interfaces written by Hudson provide communication between the PlateCrane and all attached devices. Automation of large numbers of microplates with these workcells increases productivity in the laboratory. A single process such as plate washing or multiple processes such as washing, dispensing, and reading can be automated. Cellbased or enzyme-based screening assays can be automated in this manner.
