BLACK BOX(R) Ethernet Extenders now offer even more bridging capability, so you can use a pair of them to connect a single remote workstation or a workgroup of up to 80 users without the expense of a full-featured bridge. Ethernet Extenders set up like any MAC-layer bridge-just run two Ethernet Extenders, one at your LAN and the other at your remote site. Then use one CSU/DSU for each V.35 extender or two modems for the RS-232 extenders. The 4-wire models operate over a direct link on an unshielded twisted-pair cable without the need for modems or CSU/DSUs. Once they're hooked up, the extenders automatically learn and store all the node addresses-no programming needed. The extenders are protocol transparent and work with all networks. Operation is completely transparent to high-level protocols like TCP/IP, DECnet(tm), XNS, and ISO, as well as operating systems like NetWare(R), 3Com(R), and VINES(tm).
