Secrets for using the rods (or soldering for that matter) The melted rod material will always move to the hottest area. You want that to be your repair piece area and NOT the rod. This is why you NEVER heat the rod with the torch, if you do - the melted rod material will just stay on the rod, or will drip off - bouncing off your repair piece and landing on the floor. Also this does not work as well on Magnesium, or Titanium -many people will still try though.
ALUMALOY as seen on TV is an easy to use, fluxless & arcless aluminum repair rod. Alumaloy repairs are often stronger than the aluminum that is being repaired. Alumaloy melts at close to 728 F whereas aluminum melts at near 1220 F. Because aluminum has a high heat conductivity, it does not glow red even when near its melting point, making it extremely difficult without the aid of expensive and complex welding equipment.
