This breed, developed in the mid 1800's, originated in Western France in the town of Marans from which it gets it name. Marans are best known for their dark chocolate colored eggs.
Golden Cuckoo Marans are fast growers, dual meat and egg birds and stand confinement well.. They are also excellent when allowed to free range as they do not cause the damage to your garden that some breeds do through heavy scratching.
These beautiful birds feathers are all crossed throughout with irregular dark and light golden colored bars. Rich golden barred hackles and saddles accent their stately beauty perfectly. Golden Cuckoo Marans have a large and regal presence.
Our beautiful Golden Cuckoo Marans are of the CLEAN legged variety.
A desirable trait for these birds is that the female chicks tend to be darker in color than male chicks this makes them fairly EASY TO COLOR SEX upon hatching.
Feed conversion ratios are good with Marans....They are a multi-purpose chicken and make a nice table fowl as well as being a beautiful dark egg producer.. .... Golden Cuckoo Marans are very sociable and gentle .............
Roosters are very docile and will average 8+ lbs. Hens average 7 lbs.... rooster to hen ratio is 2 to 8 in this coop......
