Our shrinking disc is available in 4 1/2" and we have options to fit 4" and 4 1/2" grinders. It works the same as a 9" disc, but in a smaller size for ease of use for quick shrinking on small areas, areas were the big disc would not fit, or for those of you who do not have a 7" or 9" grinder.
In the pictures I demonstrate removing two dents in a domed panel. Once I got the dents shrunk back down (I did NOT use a hammer and dolly, only the shrinking disc for demonstration purposes), I ran an DA air sander over the panel to show exactly how smooth of a finish can be achieved. You could never tell there used to be dents there. In normal conditions, you would straighten out the metal like usual with a hammer and dolly first to speed up the process and then use the shrinking disc to achieve smooth final finish.
Watch out for other ribbed hard plastic backing pads that include a Cast nut! (I have seen them break!) Ours uses a machined nut (very important for safety!)
