Picaxe-20X2 usb protoboard

This is all the hardware you need to get started with the PICAXE.
The package includes the 830 point solderless breadboard, the USB to serial board and associated mini USB cable (6 feet), a PICAXE-20X2 (the latest PICAXE), the LEDs as shown and a bundle of 22 awg solid wire. This is fully assembled as shown in the photo with the PICAXE running a flashing light program.
The Green LED is monitoring +5 VDC power supplied by the USB Port and the red LED hanging off the PICAXE is flashing. Note that the USB Board is providing the +5 VDC and also the serial interface. The supplied LEDs have internal series limiting resistors.
Note that you can easily modify this to interface with any PICAXE.
The USB to Serial board from Modern Device provides a good deal of flexibility in interfacing a PC USB port with the PICAXE.
USB - Serial Board Instructions and Schematic. With Configuration #1 note you have access to +5 VDC, GRD, TX and RX. I have soldered a straight male six pin header which permits me to then plug into the solder-less breadboard.
Note that I have programmed the FTDI FT232R to provide the necessary inversions of TX and RX (idle near GRD) to directly interface with the PICAXE. If you later desire to program the device to provide true TTL (idle near +5 VDC) for some other application, use FT_PROG.
