NI Elvis Educational Laboratory Virtual Instrumentation Workstation
NI ELVIS is a LabVIEW-based design and prototype environment for university engineering and science laboratories. NI ELVIS delivers all the functionality of LabVIEW-based virtual instruments, multifunction data acquisition (DAQ) devices, and bench-top workstation and prototype boards. You can integrate NI ELVIS as an out-of-the box platform or customize it to fit your laboratory needs.
The NI Educational Laboratory Virtual Instrumentation Suite (NI ELVIS) is a LabVIEW-based design and prototype environment for science and engineering laboratories. NI ELVIS consists of a custom-designed bench-top workstation and prototype board. This combination provides a ready-to-use suite of instruments found in all educational laboratories. Because it is based on LabVIEW and provides complete data acquisition and prototyping capabilities, the system is ideal for academic coursework that range from lower-division classes to advanced project-based curriculum.
NI ELVIS is an open platform based on industry-standard NI DAQ devices. A specially designed suite of virtual instruments provides functionality of common laboratory instruments, such as an oscilloscope, a function generator, a DMM, and specialty instruments such as a DSA, a bode analyzer, and current-voltage analyzers.
* Integrated, multi-instrument functionality
* Combination of instrumentation, data acquisition, and prototype station
* Complete virtual instrument suite
o Oscilloscope, DMM, Function Generator, Variable Power Supply, Bode Analyzer, Arbitrary Waveform Generator, DSA, Voltage/Current Analyzer
o Completely open; ability to customize in LabVIEW environment
* Data storage in Excel or HTML
The workstation complements the capabilities of a DAQ board, creating a complete laboratory system.
* Short circuit and high-voltage protection
* Manual or programmatic control
* 15 V and +5 V supply available
* BNC inputs for DMM and scope
* Detachable, prototype board you can customize
* Designed for 2 or 3-ring binder transport
The workstation has a dual role of connectivity and functionality. For instance, the control panel provides easy-to-operate knobs for the function generator and the power supplies. It also offers convenient connectivity in the form of BNC and banana-style connectors to various instruments, such as an oscilloscope, a function generator, and a DMM.
Another compelling feature of the workstation is the removable prototype board. The basic prototype board has an area for building electronic circuitry, along with connectivity for most common applications. With the powerful, modular nature of the NI ELVIS platform, students can own a prototype board and build circuits at home, saving valuable laboratory time for testing and learning concepts. The prototype board is powered with 15 V and a 5 V power supply, so students can construct the most common circuits. In addition, students can use the same prototype board for building custom signal conditioning for measurement applications. In fact, the workstation is so versatile that students can build their own custom PCB to plug into a standard PCI slot.
Inside the workstation, a removable protection board provides high-voltage and short circuit protection. This is a necessary benefit because of the likelihood of errors in a student lab. A removable protection board means you can quickly replace a nonfunctioning board with a proper replacement unit, meantime still moving the lab session forward. You can also easily order protection board components from electronics vendors, meaning you will not have to send repairs to the factory. We have provided extra fuses for immediate replacement.
The workstation electronics board has added functionality to route various signals between instruments. For example, you can route output of the function generator to a specific channel of the DAQ board, ultimately displaying it on a desired channel of the oscilloscope.
As the digital I/O lines of the DAQ board are used for communication, we have included additional functionality to teach digital electronics concepts.
Finally, one of the most important features of the workstation is the built-in function generator. This powerful function generator contains advanced features such as frequency sweep and AM/FM modulation inputs. You can also use the function generator as a source for the impedance analyzer. With the impedance analyzer, measurements such as capacitance and inductance, which were not previously feasible with a DAQ-based system, are now possible.
Software and other accessories are not included.
I can include a 2-meter NI cable for an additional $10
