Airfone transceiver modules ~850 mhz, 33 cm ham band ?

The four modules you see are mounted via Velcro onto a 19 rack mount panel and each one is from the old GTE Airfone system. This system
ran in the 849 896 MHz range and these are the transceivers for that system. Each one is comprised of two CA5800
(http://www.datasheetcatalog.org/datasheets2/67/67157_1.pdf) Wideband Linear Amplifiers and a handful of other parts.
The entire thing is fan cooled and there is a decent sized heatsink.
Output Power: 1 W typ @ 1 dB compression, f=900 MHz
Power Gain: 15.5 Typ @ f=1,000 MHz
Noise Figure: 7.5 dB Typ @ f=500 MHz
Frequency Range: 10 to 1,000 MHz
Now, this is where it gets interesting. The gentleman had something in mind because these have been modified with another TO-3 transistor,
with heatsink, added as well as a circuit board with a 555 timer and some discretes on it mounted to the back. I am unsure of what this was
all intended to do but there are four of these on the panel and it looks as if they are wired to be used as pairs. The conversion appears unfinished,
but I m sure these will appeal to the ham radio folks out there.
Since I am unsure of the progress he made, I am listing these for parts. However, I don t see any reason why the core transceiver wouldn t work.
Also worthy of note is that these may have been being modified for use as repeaters since the boards appear to be commercially made.
